In this 21st century,
globalization has occurred tremendously. Businesses around the world are now
connecting with one another, bringing about a new definition of a globalization
market. Profit maker businesses have increased in heights, yet at the same
time, social entrepreneurs are also adding in numbers.
Global change is occurring mostly
as of social entrepreneurs. Why is it so?
Social entrepreneurs are well
known for their innovations and ideas, where normally it is created as per the
need of the citizens around itself. For instance, schools and hospitals or even
projects such as mangrove planting are part of it. Forbes Asia has once
interviewed one of the representatives from Ashoka Indonesia on their views
about Social Entrepreneurs in Indonesia, in regard to the base of Indonesia
having a growth in the economic performance.
According to the representative, social
entrepreneurship in Indonesia has started to show its face since 2000s. Mostly,
the youths are the ones who start these type of enterprises, either small or
medium type. Other than youths, big companies such as Danone, Oriflame and GE
have started to support the social entrepreneurs, or even developing by
themselves. In regards to funding, the government is also helping in the form
of loans to support these social entrepreneurs. At some extend, several multilateral
agencies such as World Bank, USAID and AUSAID are also providing support and
aid towards the growth of social enterprises in Indonesia.
David Bornstein, the author of “How to Change the World: Social
Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas” quoted that, “Social
entrepreneurs identify resources where people only see problems. They view the
villagers as the solution, not the passive beneficiary. They begin with the
assumption of competence and unleash resources in the communities they’re
saying.”
